Transfer Scholarships
You’ve worked hard to get here. That’s why Aurora University provides a comprehensive merit scholarship program in recognition of all you’ve accomplished. We are ready to make our investment in you because we know that the AU community will be better with you as part of it.
No special application is required for merit scholarships, so make sure your application for admission is complete. You’ll be notified of your merit scholarship soon after your acceptance to AU.

Transfer Merit Scholarships
Transfer students are eligible for merit scholarships based on their academic merit. These scholarships are renewable for transfer students who maintain full-time status and good academic standing.
The following scholarships and grants are available for full-time transfer students entering the university to pursue their first undergraduate degree.

Aurora University scholarships and awards will be awarded based on availability of funds. We recommend that you apply for admission and submit all documentation as early as possible. Institutional awards cannot exceed the overall cost of tuition and fees. All scholarship and grant amounts listed are for the academic year; fall and spring semesters. Please note that Degree Completion, AU Online, or University Center at McHenry County College students are not eligible for AU merit-based scholarships; these scholarships are not applicable to graduate tuition.

AU Transfer Success Award
- Available to students who typically transfer to AU with 15-29 semester hours of credit.
- Awarded through a holistic review process that includes looking at overall grades in high school and college.
- Renewable up to three years for full-time, transfer students who maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher at Aurora University.
AU Commitment to Excellence Scholarship
- Awarded to Elgin Community College and Waubonsee Community College scholars who are approved by their advisor. ECC students must be a Board Trustee Scholar and WCC must be a Gustafson Scholar.
- The student must attend AU as soon as they graduate from ECC or WCC.
- Stackable along with other merit-based awards, except for the Elgin Community College Partnership Grant. AU will honor one or the other.
- Renewable up to three years for full-time, transfer students who maintain good academic standing during their undergraduate career.
Future Sammy
- Available beginning fall 2024.
- Awarded to students who are transferring from an accredited four-year institution to AU.
- Requires a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.0 or higher from all institutions attended.
- Renewable up to three years for full-time, transfer students who maintain good academic standing during their undergraduate career.
Phi Theta Kappa Member
- Requires a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.0 or higher from all institutions attended, and active membership verified from your official transcript(s) or Phi Theta Kappa certificate prior to enrollment at AU.
- Renewable up to three years for full-time, transfer students who maintain good academic standing during their undergraduate career.
Alpha Beta Gamma Member
- Requires a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.0 or higher from all institutions attended, and active membership verified from your official transcript(s) or Alpha Beta Gamma certificate prior to enrollment at AU.
- Renewable up to three years for full-time, transfer students who maintain good academic standing during their undergraduate career.
Psi Beta Member
- Requires a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.0 or higher from all institutions attended, and active membership verified from your official transcript(s) or Psi Beta certificate prior to enrollment at AU.
- Renewable up to three years for full-time, transfer students who maintain good academic standing during their undergraduate career.
Elgin Community College Partnership Grant
- Minimum of 2.25 GPA requirement
- Must have an A.A or A.S degree in progress. Awards will be picked by August 1 for fall and by January 10 for spring. Degree will be verified upon receipt of final transcripts.
- Stackable along with other merit-based awards, except for the Commitment to Excellence Scholarship. AU will honor one or the other.
- Renewable each year as an undergraduate student for up to 2 years to students who maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher at Aurora University.

Music and Theatre Scholarships
- Audition/interview required. Can audition with any instrument.
- Participation in music and theatre is required.

Advent Christian Endowed Scholarship
- Available to full-time, traditional undergraduate students that are members of the Advent Christian Church.
- Awards vary depending on number of applicants and availability of funds, which is determined in July.
- An Advent Christian Endowed Scholarship application must be completed by the applicant and pastor and submitted to the Office of Financial Aid by June 1.
Alumni Legacy Grants
- Available to children and grandchildren of alumni who have earned a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree at Aurora University or George Williams College.
- An Alumni Legacy Grant application must be submitted to verify eligibility.
- Please note: This discount does not apply to online or graduate students. It also does not apply if you are pursuing a second bachelor's degree.
Aurora University Family Discount
- Awarded to undergraduate students who have an immediate family member* enrolled concurrently at Aurora University or George Williams College.
- Each family member attending must be a full-time student.
- A Family Discount application must be submitted to verify eligibility.
- Please Note: This discount does not apply to Degree Completion, Graduate, and AU Online student accounts. It also does not apply if you are pursuing a second bachelor's degree. However, students enrolled in a Degree Completion, Graduate, AU Online, or second bachelor’s degree program can qualify their family member in a traditional undergraduate program for the Family Discount provided both students are enrolled full-time.
*Qualifying relationships must be biological or legal relationships and include the following:
- Sibling/Stepsibling
- Spouse
- Parent/Stepparent
- Child/Stepchild
Note that additional documentation may be requested to verify the relationship.
Connection Award
- Granted to students whose state of legal home residence is other than Illinois or 50 or more miles from Aurora University.
Educators Rising
- Entering full-time freshman and transfer students at the Aurora campus who were active Educators Rising members during their senior year of high school (or longer) at one of the nineteen Educators Rising partnership schools.*
- Membership must be verified by the local advisors.
- EdRising Scholarship renewal criteria:
- Continuation as a declared Education major.
- Cumulative GPA at AU of 3.0.
- Active participation in the Educators Rising program at AU during the previous year as verified by the Educators Rising Coordinators.
