Hours, Admission, and Location

The Schingoethe Center is thrilled to announce that we will be reopening the museum for our newest exhibition The Global Language of Headwear: Cultural Identity, Rites of Passage, and Spirituality (February 23 - May 21, 2021) to AU students, faculty, and staff.

In support of public health measures related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) the gallery can only accommodate five visitors at a time. Reservations need to be made in advance for timed entry.  Please e-mail us at museum@aurora.edu to reserve a time to visit the gallery.  Regular visiting hours will be 10 AM - 3 PM on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Additional visiting times can be requested.

Reservations should be requested 72 hours in advance of visit. Reservation requests will be answered within two business days.

In order to facilitate a responsible reopening, new social distancing measure and limited capacities are being implemented. Face coverings are mandatory for all guests.

Admission

Admission is FREE, but donations are welcome!

The following is a list of our suggested donations. Your admission donations help us to provide services, exhibits, and programs to the larger community.

Adults $3.00 donation
Children under 12 $1.00 donation
Students and seniors $2.00 donation
Family $7.00 maximum donation

Location and Directions

Our address is 1315 Prairie Street, Aurora, IL 60506. We are located inside the Hill Welcome Center on Aurora University's Main Campus.

From Chicago:

  1. Take I-290 W
  2. Follow I-290 W to I-88 W
  3. Continue on I-88 W. Look for signs for Orchard Road.
  4. Take the Orchard Road exit.
  5. Turn left (south) onto Orchard Road
  6. Continue on Orchard Road for about 4 miles until you reach Prairie Street.
  7. Turn left (east) onto Prairie Street.
  8. Continue on Prairie Street until you see the Hill Welcome Center/Schingoethe Center on your left-hand side. The museum is located at 1315 Prairie Street (on the corner of Prairie Street and University Parkway/Calumet Avenue).

From the Southern Suburbs:

  1. Take 294-North to the East-West Tollway (I-88).
  2. Take Orchard Road exit.
  3. Turn left (south) onto Orchard Road.
  4. In about 4 miles, turn left (east) onto Prairie Street.
  5. The museum is located at 1315 Prairie Street (on the corner of Prairie Street and University Parkway/Calumet Avenue).

From the Northern and Northwestern Suburbs:

  1. Take either 294-South, Route 59, or Route 53/I-355-South to the East-West Tollway (I-88).
  2. Take Orchard Road exit.
  3. Turn left (south) on Orchard Road.
  4. In about 4 miles, turn left (east) onto Prairie Street.
  5. The museum is located at 1315 Prairie Street (on the corner of Prairie Street and University Parkway/Calumet Avenue).

From Southern and Central Illinois:

  1. Take Route 47-North through Yorkville and turn right at Prairie Street.
  2. In about 2 miles, take another right to stay on Prairie Street.
  3. The museum is located at 1315 Prairie Street (on the corner of Prairie Street and University Parkway/Calumet Avenue).
