For awhile now, I've been creating a series of works that feature short phrases — all in a positive & affirming voice — with letters cut from supermarket weeklies. The pairing of these transcendent sayings with loud advertisements plastered full of products' prices is something I always find interesting. It seems like nearly everything in our lives has a price tag on it. Worse yet, it seems like anything that doesn't have a price on it is barely noticed, as if something either has to be monetized or it's worthless. One of the best things to come out of my days sheltering-in-place has been the chance to closely watch the movement of the natural world around me, to observe the beauty of the trees, plants, and flowers - those things without price tags.
