Core Curriculum

Starting in fall 2026, new students will be required to complete the Core Curriculum. Students who enrolled before fall 2026 are required to complete the General Education requirements.
The Core Curriculum at Aurora University, previously referred to as general education, prepares you for graduation, but more importantly, for what’s next. Designed in partnership with students, the curriculum develops the skills employers value most while helping you succeed in college and beyond.
Through Core Certificates, experiential learning, and integrated coursework, you’ll gain practical experience in AI ethics, data literacy, and professional competencies identified by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). The result is a cohesive yet flexible academic experience that empowers you to explore your interests while building durable, career-ready skills.
What is Core Curriculum?
Core Curriculum provides a shared academic experience while giving you the flexibility to explore your interests. It is designed to build essential skills, connect learning across disciplines, and prepare students for in-depth thinking as they begin their majors and start meaningful careers.
Why it Matters
Employers are looking for adaptable, resilient collaborators who can apply and integrate knowledge. The Core Curriculum intentionally prepares you to graduate with the skills and experience to step confidently into your career and make meaningful contributions in your community.
Through the Core Curriculum, you’ll develop:
- Career-ready skills aligned with employers' interests.
- In-demand knowledge in AI ethics and data literacy.
- Practical, hands-on experience to boost your resume.
How Core Curriculum Works
The Core Curriculum is a 36-credit experience built around three key stages. Each stage of the Core builds on the last, helping students develop, explore, and apply their learning in meaningful ways. Courses within the Core Curriculum can often be combined with major requirements, counting toward both.
