Career Professional Mentoring Program

The Career Professional Mentoring Program connects students with dedicated alumni and community partner mentors to support career exploration and professional growth. Whether you're a student ready to take your next step or an alum hoping to give back, this program is designed to foster meaningful connections that lead to success.

Information for Students

As a junior or senior at AU, you have the opportunity to connect one-on-one with an experienced professional mentor who understands your journey and is ready to support your goals. Our mentors — AU alumni and community partners working across industries — are here to offer insight, encouragement, and guidance as you prepare for life after graduation.

Achieve career development through mentoring. You will:

  • Receive help navigating the job search and interview process.
  • Learn how to set and achieve professional goals.

  • Build a lasting relationship with a mentor who can support you beyond graduation.
  • Full-time Aurora University student
  • Junior or senior standing
  • Declared major
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Apply at aurora.edu/menteeapplication.
  • If selected, attend a fall student orientation in September and meet your mentor at a Kickoff Breakfast in October.
  • Meet with your mentor at least once per month from November through April (in person, Zoom, or phone).
  • Submit monthly assignments that coincide with each month's mentoring topic to help guide conversations and track your progress.

Information for Alumni and Community Partners

As a mentor, you can make a lasting difference in the life of a student by sharing your career journey and offering professional insight. AU students are eager to learn from alumni and community partners who have walked a similar path and are now navigating the professional world. Your experience can help shape their future.

As a mentor, you will:
  • Share real-world insights about your industry and career path.
  • Support a student’s personal and professional growth.
  • Help build confidence, communication, and goal-setting skills.
  • Provide feedback on resumes, career plans, and interview prep.
  • Serve as a sounding board as your mentee explores career options.
  • Build a rewarding connection with the next generation of AU graduates.
  • Give back to your alma mater and community in a meaningful and flexible way.
To become a mentor, you must: 
  • Be an AU alum or a professional affiliated with AU.
  • Have a minimum 3 years of professional experience.
  • Be willing to mentor a student from November through April.
  • Attend our program breakfast kickoff in October to meet your mentee.
  • Meet with your mentee once per month (November–April).
  • Flexible format: Zoom, phone, or in-person.
