Study Away FAQs
Review the questions below to learn more about AU Study Away.
Students of any major are eligible to participate in AU Study Away opportunities.
Interested students should:
- Meet with the instructor and secure permission to register.
- Meet with Mary Tarling, the director of global engagement, in Institute 303 to discuss questions and secure permission.
- Review and sign the Study Away Payment Agreement and Pre-Registration Request Form.
- Submit the $500 deposit to Student Accounts by the course-specific deadline.
- Be registered for the course by the Registrar after the deposit is received.
- Pay the remaining balance by the course-specific deadline.
Scholarships are available for AU Study Away! Awards of up to $1,000 are available to support course and travel costs. Complete your scholarship application by the following deadlines:
- Spring Study Away Scholarship Application Deadline: November 6, 2025
- Summer Study Away Scholarship Application Deadline: February 11, 2026

Travel length varies by course and can range from 3-10 days.
The total travel cost varies by course, but transportation, lodging, and meals are included. Tuition is separate. Students have to be enrolled in the course to participate in the travel experience. Please see the course descriptions for cost information.

Tuition for AU Study Away follows the billing guidelines for tuition and fees. Travel costs are separate and due in full by the deadlines published for required travel arrangements to be made in advance.
AU Study Away offers a variety of international and domestic destinations each academic year.
The university monitors the travel guidelines published by the U.S. Department of State in planning international study away opportunities to support safety.
If you are interested in an international travel course, you will need a passport. You will need to submit a copy of a valid passport that expires at least six months after the Study Away trip or proof of passport application when meeting with the Director of Global Engagement for approval to make your deposit.
