Explore workplace settings through internships

Dalicandro is utilizing internship opportunities as a way to explore different workplace settings and accounting roles. By the start of her sophomore year, she had already completed two internships.

Why did you decide to complete multiple internships?

Taking internships at various organizations allows you to experience different aspects of the field to see what setting you prefer to work in. My internships at Preferred Accounting and Tax Service in Aurora, Illinois, and MidAmerica Roofing, Inc. in Romeoville, Illinois, allowed me to develop new skills to add to my resume, helped me define my career goals, and gave me more knowledge on the accounting industry. I’ve learned how to work in a corporate environment, how to communicate professionally, and how to work hard and efficiently no matter what task I’m completing.

Any advice for students on the fence about interning?

The earlier you intern, the earlier you will know if you actually like what you are majoring in. It is also a terrific way to build your network and hear different perspectives on the career.
