Creative Writing (Minor)
Why minor in Creative Writing?
Whether you’re wishing to pursue writing as a career or for personal enrichment, Creative Writing provides an opportunity to tap into your self-expression while engaging your passion for writing. With this minor, you will enhance your reading, writing, and editorial skills, as well as shape your literary voice and style.
The Creative Writing minor at Aurora University is designed to complement any major. You'll participate in small, workshop-style classes where you will study several genres of literature and learn to write, revise, edit, and submit work for publication. You’ll work with professors who are all active writers and can share their experience and expertise on the practical level. You’ll even have the opportunity to gain editorial experience through AU’s two literary magazines, Elysian and Environmentalese.
The skills you’ll develop as a Creative Writing minor can be applied to a variety of careers outside of literary circles. Self-expression, creative problem-solving, and receiving and giving useful feedback are essential for positions in communications, marketing, music, theatre, and more. A minor in Creative Writing is also good preparation for those interested in pursuing an advanced degree, such as a Master of Fine Arts.

Creative writing courses at AU have helped me find my voice and refine my writing skills. I want to help the next generation of young writers find their voice, just like my professors here at AU have helped me.Madalynn Sedgwick '25
