Cal Myers

Calvin R. Myers ’64 began his journey with Aurora University as a student more than 60 years ago and went on to leave an enduring legacy as an alumnus, faculty member, trustee, and advocate. His vision, service, and steady leadership helped shape the university’s academic and athletic programs, as well as its long-term success.

Cal graduated from Aurora College in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business. As a student, he excelled both academically and athletically — receiving the Gold Ivy Leaf Award for superior scholarship and being named Male Athlete of the Year for his contributions to the baseball and men’s basketball teams. In 2014, he was inducted into the AU Athletic Hall of Fame.

After earning an MBA from the University of Chicago and a PhD from Northern Illinois University, Cal returned to Aurora College as a faculty member from 1966 to 1976. He chaired the Department of Economics and Business, advised the Executive Club, and served on several academic committees.

He later transitioned to the banking industry, ultimately serving as president and chief executive officer of Merchants Bancorp, Inc. Cal remained active in public service through board appointments with the Illinois Bankers Association and the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, as well as leadership roles in a wide range of civic organizations.

Elected to the Aurora University Board of Trustees in 1996, Cal served with distinction and chaired the board from 2004 to 2011. His deep commitment to AU included leadership in fundraising and capital projects, including the athletic field and stadium. In 2008, he was honored to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the dedication of the new baseball field at Solfisburg Park.

In recognition of his exceptional service and leadership, Aurora University presented Cal with the Spirit Award in 2011, its highest honor. Admired as a teacher, economist, and servant leader, he is remembered for his humility, wisdom, and unwavering support for AU students and the university’s mission.
