BSN Program (Pre-licensure) Admission
Aurora University offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program. Further application information, including application deadlines, are located on the Aurora University BSN admission website. Two admission tracks are available for the pre-licensure BSN degree option:
- Direct admission
- Transfer admission
Nursing progression policies for the NUR3000 and NUR4000 courses are detailed in the annual School of Nursing Baccalaureate Student Handbook. Program requirements include, but are not limited to, fingerprint criminal background check(s) and drug screening(s), documentation of immunizations/immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases and other health requirements, health insurance, core performance standards, American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR certification, clinical attire and equipment requirements, program-specific expenses and fees, and access to private transportation.
Admission Requirements for Direct Admission
Direct admission to the BSN program is offered to qualified incoming freshmen who have met the admission standards for Aurora University declared nursing as their intended major prior to enrolling, and have a high school cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0/4.0 scale (3.75/5.0) or higher.
Meeting the minimum academic qualifications does not guarantee admission to the nursing program. There is a competitive, program-specific admission process for a limited number of seats for current students who want to enter the professional phase of the BSN program. All applications are reviewed by the BSN Admissions Committee.
In addition to AU’s undergraduate admission requirements, students applying to the BSN degree program are required to meet the following:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75/4.0 scale (3.42/5.0).
- All nursing prerequisite courses from the list below are completed with a grade of "C" or better, with no "D" or "F" grades.
- BIO1210/1210Z
- BIO2280/2280Z
- CHM1200/1200Z
- HLS2260
- HLS2670
- MTH2100
- NUR1214
- PSY1100
- PSY3250
Good Academic Standing
Each undergraduate student’s academic progress is reviewed at the end of every 16-week semester in which they have completed classes. Students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75/4.0 scale are in good academic standing at the university.
BSN students whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.75 or have one “C” grade are placed on academic warning. These students must earn either a cumulative or subsequent semester GPA of at least 2.75. Students who do not will lose their direct admission seat due to academic performance.
Students will remain on academic warning until they earn a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.75, at which time the warning will be removed from their record.
Admission Requirements for Transfer Students
There is a competitive, program-specific admission process for a limited number of seats in the BSN program for transfer students. All applications for transfer students are reviewed for acceptance by the Nursing Admission, Policies, and Standards Committee.
In addition to the Aurora University undergraduate admission requirements, students applying to the BSN degree program are required to meet the following:
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75/4.0 scale (3.42/5.0) at Aurora University or other accredited higher education institution.
- All nursing prerequisite courses taken must be completed with a “C” or better prior to starting the professional phase of the BSN degree program. Courses taken after provisional admission and prior to the beginning of the 3000-level nursing courses must be completed with a “C” or better. (Course list modified to reflect Fall 2023 admissions standards.)
- BIO1210/1210Z
- BIO2280
- CHM1200/1200Z
- HLS2660
- HLS2670
- MTH2100
- PSY1100
- PSY3250
- All science prerequisites must have been completed within the last ten years.
- Applicants who are graduates of foreign secondary schools where the primary language is not English must obtain a composite score of at least 550 (or a 213-220) on the computer-based test from the Test of English Foreign Language (TOEFL) or ESL Level 109.
- Students are required to have successfully completed 60 semester hours (SH) prior to entering the 3000-level nursing courses. An applicant may have a maximum of 20 SH in progress the semester prior to beginning clinical courses (i.e., 12 SH fall or spring and 8 SH summer) when their file is reviewed for admission.
Because only a limited number of seats are available in the BSN program for transfer students, admission is not guaranteed even if all of the above requirements are met.
