Program Requirements — Doctor of Education

These requirements will apply to students enrolling at AU in the 2017-2018 academic year. Current students can find the requirements that apply to them by consulting the relevant academic catalog.

Program Requirements

  • A minimum of 60 semester hours (beyond the master’s degree).
  • Successful completion of three degree milestones:
    • Milestone 1: Completion of the first year self-reflection
    • Milestone 2: Successful passing of comprehensive examination
    • Milestone 3: Successful defense of an individually written dissertation research study

Schedule

To complete your degree in three years, you will complete six courses each year as below. If you wish to engage in a lengthened program, you would take one course in the fall and spring terms, completing all coursework by the end of the third year.

All courses are taught at the Aurora University Woodstock Center on evenings and Saturdays.

*Courses that fulfill superintendent endorsement.
**Continuous enrollment must be maintained until degree completion and a minimum of 9 dissertation 

Note: All doctoral students are required to be continuously enrolled. Doctoral students must be enrolled for at least one semester hour of dissertation credit until their dissertation is completed. In any semester, doctoral students can register for as few as one dissertation credit or as many as 12.

Annual Progress

After your first year, you will submit a reflection on your progress toward the EdD program outcomes. At the end of your second year, you will take a comprehensive examination in which you apply your learning issues arising from educational practice.
