COVID-19 Advisory 12.0

A message from Dr. Rebecca Sherrick:

At Aurora University, we continue to monitor carefully the spread of the coronavirus within Illinois and Wisconsin. The daily news from Washington, California, and New York is a powerful reminder of what could be in store for those of us who live in the Midwest. With these examples in mind, we are dedicated first and foremost to the safety and welfare of the extended AU family.

In Illinois, Governor J.B. Pritzker has ordered residents to shelter in place through the first week of April. Such efforts are largely preventative. The intent of social distancing is to slow the advance of the virus so that health care professionals are able to keep pace with its spread and the other serious conditions that patients present on a daily basis.

With this message, I am announcing the decision to continue remote instruction through the conclusion of the 2020 spring semester. This is by far the safest option open to all of us at this point. I see value also in bringing at least one element of certainty into our lives. Now that you know of the university’s plan, you may make your own.

When we are able to reopen the campus, we will continue to emphasize the kind of individualized attention that is a hallmark of the AU experience. For now, however, we will continue to work together from a distance. We will plan a series of additional messages relating to academics, residence life, finances, intercollegiate athletics, and commencement.

We know that many of you are concerned about your belongings in the residence halls and when you will be able to come to campus to get them. We will develop specific plans around residence hall move-out as soon as we know when the governor’s shelter-in-place order will be lifted.

As each new posting appears, you will receive a RAVE message encouraging you to visit the website. Communication will come in other ways too. I will continue to share regular email messages as will other AU professionals. You may expect also to receive phone calls and occasional mailings. As always, we are One AU, a family of resilient Spartans preparing to make our world a better place.
