Test Proctor

Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the Director, the test proctor in the Academic Support Center staffs the front desk of testing services and serves as the primary proctor when exams are administered. The Test Proctor is the eyes and ears in the testing center, ensuring that exams are administered meeting the students' approved ADA accommodations and/or the testing specifications designated by the instructor are implemented while maintaining academic integrity.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Work directly with the ASC director in regard to office policies, testing procedures, potential test accommodations, and the handling of test materials.
  2. Maintain security of all testing materials at all times.
  3. Ensure students comply with all department testing policies.
  4. Report cheating and potential academic integrity immediately.
  5. Serve as a reader and/or scribe if testing accommodations require this. Recognizes that a strict standard of confidentiality applies in relation to any student receiving accommodations in connection with a disability.
  6. When necessary, communicate with faculty members to confirm testing procedures and expectations.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • High school diploma; some college coursework preferred.

Experience:

  • Customer service and general office experience, preferably in an educational setting.

Skills:

  • Computer proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, Colleague, Webadvisor)
  • Able to utilize excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to (a) listen with empathy and respect, (b) communicate clearly, and (c) convey courtesy, patience and a desire to help,
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and faculty, characterized by cooperation, attention to detail, flexibility, reliability, efficiency and personal responsibility.
  • Able to follow established procedures closely. Able to exercise judgment and composure when faced with an unexpected situation or an uncooperative or dissatisfied student, staff or faculty member, deferring to the director when appropriate.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing/sitting; filing; moving about testing room around table and chairs.
