Systems Administrator

Position Purpose: The Systems Administrator supports learning by maintenance of existing software applications and development of new applications in support of management information needs of Aurora University and various university departments.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Develop, maintain and support for AU’s Learning Management System (LMS) that is used by AU students and faculty.
  2. Develop, maintain and support for Windows / Linux (RHEL/CentOS), VMware, and Storage Infrastructure.
  3. Develop, maintain and support system backups.
  4. Schedule and train for applications such as Moodle, Basis, and WebEx.
  5. Create and maintain server and system documentation.
  6. Develop, maintain and support the ITS website.
  7. Administer and support the physical security system BASIS
  8. Collaborate with ITS team to plan, implement, and support system design changes and updates for existing and new systems
  9. Monitor applications and systems.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • A+, MCSA / MCSE, or CCNA preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum one year experience supporting Linux and Windows based servers.
  • Working knowledge of server and storage hardware.
  • Administration and deployment of open source applications.
  • Intimately familiar with configuring and managing a full stack (i.e. LAMP, MEAN, etc.) preferred.
  • Training end users on applications preferred.
  • Administering systems from the command line and scripting with BASH / Python preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills
  • Active Directory, VMware, Storage (SAN) administration
  • Quick learner with great prioritization skills
  • Ability to work independently and be dependable
  • Ability to accept divergent views while maintaining a constructive working relationship with other team members

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move around campus and to travel to alternate sites as needs demand.
