Project Manager

Aurora University is an independent, comprehensive institution founded in 1893 offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Position Purpose: The Project Manager supports learning by managing strategic construction projects and real estate improvements on all Aurora University campuses. As a key member of the team, this person is responsible for ensuring that the university's construction and renovation standards are met in terms of schedule, scope, budget and quality.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Manages all construction, remodeling and renovation projects on all of Aurora University campuses.
  2. Plans, directs and coordinates assigned projects from design to completion.
  3. Oversees the selection of trade contractors and general contractors who are appropriate for the completion of a project.
  4. Manages quality of subcontractors to ensure that schedule, scope, response and cost are consistent with university expectations.
  5. Ensures that all safety precautions are adhered to by vendors and contractors.
  6. Personally inspects all ongoing projects; discusses work in progress with stakeholders; updates supervisor of progress to date.
  7. Acts as liaison between the Aurora University community, architect, construction manager, outside vendors and the neighborhood with respect to scheduling and communication of projects on the Aurora campus.
  8. Ensures that projects are completed to the satisfaction of the university in terms of schedule, scope, budget and quality.
  9. Assists with miscellaneous facility management initiatives as needed.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, related field, or significant/equivalent experience in related field required.

Experience:

  • Five to ten years significant project management or construction management experience required. Experience as Owner’s Representative highly preferred.
  • Experience managing larger scale construction/renovation projects strongly preferred, particularly in education or healthcare settings.
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction contracts, drawings and specifications for multiple trade disciplines.

  • Ability to negotiate and manage contractual arrangements.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
  • Skill in budget preparations and fiscal management.

Special Requirements:

  • Able to work a flexible schedule as needed with some weekends and evenings required.

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to move about campus and between campus locations, including construction sites and “hardhat” areas.
