Admission Counselor (Nursing)

Aurora University is an independent, comprehensive institution founded in 1893 offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Our two campuses are located in Aurora, Illinois and on the shores of Geneva Lake in Wisconsin. Additionally, we have an Educational Center in Woodstock, Illinois. Position Purpose: The Admission Counselor for Nursing supports learning by recruiting a diverse student population of transfer, freshman direct admit and graduate nursing students. The counselor will act as a liaison between the School of Nursing and Enrollment. The position also counsels prospective students throughout the admission process and works with the School of Nursing to create and execute effective recruitment plans for their programs. This position will also counsel prospective students throughout the Nursing Admission process and the enrollment upon acceptance to the program.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assists faculty in the creation of recruitment material specific to Aurora University’s Nursing program.
  2. Travel, when necessary, to Nursing-related high school and community college events to recruit students.
  3. Meet with faculty and Nursing representatives regularly to develop business/recruitment plans that assist in effective recruitment of students within the School of Nursing, including direct admit, transfer and plus one programs.
  4. Oversee the Nursing admission process, including helping collect TEAS scores, School of Nursing Application, and updated transcripts for all new transfer students applying to the program.
  5. Oversee the Nursing enrollment process once a student is admitted to the program, including the Nursing deposit, updated transcripts, and registering for classes.
  6. Serves as an active member of the Transfer recruitment team; as well as the entire enrollment team. Assists with special programs and research projects; participates in the development and implementation of enrollment strategies.
  7. Identifies, recruits and enrolls prospective nursing students.
  8. Researches and provides accurate information about Aurora University's Nursing program and admission procedures.
  9. Evaluates high school transcripts, ACT and SAT board scores, and all college transcripts for unofficial evaluation. Provides guidance in admission of a student to AU.
  10. Manages campus visits, written correspondence, and financial aid discussions.
  11. Assists with open houses, on-campus and off-campus recruitment events, and telecounseling.
  12. Provides financial aid information to prospective students and families, including explanation of the financial aid process; works with the family to determine a comprehensive financial plan for attendance at the University.
  13. Works with student interns to assist in fulfilling admission counselor duties.
  14. Recommends and implements strategies to meet enrollment goals for the transfer team and overall enrollment.
  15. Engages with current CRM, Colleague and other technology recruitment strategies; actively recommend ideas and process improvements.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Experience in admissions, or sales important.

Skills:

  • Ability to relate well to prospective undergraduate students.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to gather vast knowledge on School of Nursing and speak proficiently about Aurora University’s Nursing program.
  • Ability to travel to Nursing-related events, at high schools and community colleges.
  • Customer-service orientation and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software essential. Knowledge of Colleague/Slate preferred.
  • Ability to handle and act on confidential information.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and parents; and to develop strong working relationships with colleagues, staff, administrators, students and the general public.
  • Ability to prioritize work and to meet deadlines required.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred, but not required.

Special Requirements:

  • Flexibility with an evolving work situation. Some evening and Saturday hours required.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license.
  • Ability to travel regularly to high schools, career fairs, and out-of-state territories, providing own vehicle.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move about campus.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to interact via telephone, in person and via electronic media.
