Maintenance Worker (Williams Bay, WI)

Position Purpose: Under general supervision, perform a variety of skilled maintenance, repair, alteration, and building construction tasks related to the college buildings and equipment within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Inspect buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions; identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  2. Supervises work order process and ensures tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  3. Perform minor troubleshooting and repairs; replace light bulbs, ballasts and fuses.
  4. Identify and perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures; open clogged lines and drains.
  5. Identify and assist carpentry and repair work.
  6. Operate a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools including saws, routers, drills, sanders, planers, drill presses, and various hand tools.
  7. Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment; recommend tool supplies and equipment for purchase.
  8. Perform a variety of locksmith duties; install, repair, and replace locks on doors.
  9. Install or replace plugs, switches, and outlets.
  10. Assist with snow removal.
  11. Perform periodic maintenance of lawn equipment and vehicles.
  12. Assist with moving, loading, unloading, and storing supplies, furniture, and equipment.
  13. Responds to 24-hour emergency calls. Troubleshoots and responds to after-hour issues as needed regarding the operational aspects of the facilities such as HVAC issues, fire alarm malfunctions, electrical outages, water leaks, etc.
  14. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  15. Complies with all company, safety, and risk management policies and procedures.
  16. Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  17. Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
  18. Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.
  19. Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  20. Willingness to work in multiple areas within the Facilities/Grounds department.
  21. Maintain clean and orderly conditions in all working areas for purpose of observing all safety practices and regulations.
  22. Monitors contract work for the purposes of ensuring contract terms are fulfilled and work standards are met.
  23. Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, recommendations, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  24. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Job-related experience within a specialized field is required. Targeted job-related education that meets organization prerequisite requirements.

Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience.

Skills:

  • Strategic thinking and orientation with the ability to identify and solve problems.
  • The ability to deal with multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and the flexibility to deal with changing needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve or exceed goals and the ability to consistently meet deadlines.

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in all OSHA and local requirements related to all assigned work.
  • The ability to work independently and as a member of the George Williams College team.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability.

Physical Requirements:

  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury.
  • Must maneuver around campus and the hilly terrain with ease.
