Director of Operations

Aurora University is an independent, comprehensive institution founded in 1893 offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Our two campuses are located in Aurora, Illinois and on the shores of Geneva Lake in Wisconsin. Additionally, we have an Educational Center in Woodstock, Illinois. Position Purpose: The Director of Operations supports learning by managing all operational services related to the care and upkeep of all physical facilities and grounds on the Aurora campus. Assists in the planning and management of the university’s capital renewal and replacement budgets as they relate to the support of plant maintenance and improvements. Advises the administration on all institutional policies and procedures related to the management of the physical resources.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Manages the physical facilities and grounds on the Aurora campus; making regular inspection of facilities and grounds to identify and insure that repairs and improvements meet or exceed university standards.
  2. Coordinates with the Sodexo Director of Physical Properties with respect to facilities maintenance, improvements and repair, housekeeping services and landscaping.
  3. Inspects various areas of the campus to identify repair and improvements needed; meets regularly with Sodexo representative to discuss all work and issues.
  4. Manages vendors and consultants to ensure that schedule, scope, response and cost are consistent with university expectations.
  5. Develops and maintains an on-going five-year building maintenance and capital project schedule; identifies and sets priorities by building of areas requiring attention, and prepare preliminary plans and cost estimates.
  6. Advises the administration on all institutional policies and procedures related to the management of the physical resources of the university.
  7. Advises the university administration on the funding needs to adequately maintain the physical facilities of the institution and maintenance projects on the campuses.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or significant/equivalent experience in related field required.

Experience:

  • Five years significant managerial/supervisory experience required. Facility/Operations Management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow and operating procedures.

  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow and operating procedures.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage contractual arrangements.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
  • Skill in budget preparations and fiscal management.

Special Requirements:

  • Able to work a flexible schedule as needed with some weekends and evenings required.

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to move about campus and between locations.
