Business Internship Field Coordinator

Position Purpose: The Business Internship Field Coordinator supports learning by managing and administering the internship and experiential learning programs for both undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Business and Public Policy.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assists in the development and implementation of the internship and experiential learning program for undergraduate and graduate students of the School of Business and Public Policy.
  2. Assists with securing appropriate internship sites. Maintains records of approved internship sites, to include required documents. Establishes and maintains positive and productive relations with internship sites to promote the university as well as evaluate appropriateness and relevance of internships.
  3. Assists in development and implementation of marketing strategies to connect employers to the university and students to internships. Assists in creation and production of program material and information publications.
  4. Coordinates and facilitates communication of internship and experiential learning programs to students, including group information workshops as well as one on one meetings. Coordinates recruiting efforts. Assists students in securing appropriate placements.
  5. Coordinates and facilitates training sessions for students who have secured internship placements.
  6. Manage internship and experiential learning program student files, including completion and receipt of required documents.
  7. Monitors students and sites throughout the internship. Manages problems or potential problems and works with student, internship site and Dean to resolve.
  8. Coordinates the internship evaluation process, to include collection and reporting of both formative and evaluative metrics from internships sites and students on the experience.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Master’s degree required; MBA, MPA, or Graduate Management-related degree preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in business or higher education, particularly in the areas of recruitment, human resources, or career advising.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter who can work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Strong organization skills and detail-orientation.
  • Knowledge of career counseling and experiential education principles and practices.
  • Understanding of employer recruiting strategies; job market trends; and occupational, career and personal growth.
  • Understanding of collegiate environment and culture, and ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, parents and administrators.
  • Understanding of marketing strategies, processes and resources.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move about on campus and other field locations.
  • Ability to interact via telephone, in person and via electronic media.
