Assistant Director of Development

Aurora University is an independent, comprehensive institution founded in 1893 offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Our two campuses are located in Aurora, Illinois and on the shores of Geneva Lake in Wisconsin. Additionally, we have an Educational Center in Woodstock, Illinois. Position Purpose: The Assistant Director of Development provides key support to members of the Office of Development including the Vice President of Development, the Major Gift Officers, and the Advancement Operations Team. The duties of the Assistant Director of Development are closely aligned to the fundraising priorities of Aurora University including annual fundraising efforts, as well as fundraising for restricted and capital projects. The Assistant Director of Development will be responsible for various special projects that help advance the goals of the Office of Development including prospect research, donor cultivation and stewardship, foundation and federal grants support, and annual fundraising direct mail campaigns.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Work directly with the Vice President for Development on special projects connected to fundraising efforts and priorities.
  2. Provide project support for all annual fundraising efforts including the Fund for Student Success, the GWC AFund, Music by the Lake, Sundays at 4 and Arts and Ideas.
  3. Provide ongoing assistance to Major Gift Officers through prospect research and portfolio support.
  4. Provide project support for foundation and federal grant submissions.
  5. Collaborate with the Advancement Operations team on initiatives to support fundraising efforts.
  6. Provide administrative assistance to the Vice President for Development.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required

Experience:

  • Two to three years professional experience within an office or collaborative setting, with a preference for higher education.
  • Some background in and overall understanding of philanthropic initiatives.

Skills:

  • Proven ability to execute multiple projects and tasks while remaining detail-oriented, efficient and organized.
  • The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and collaboratively on a variety of initiatives while maintaining a forward-thinking and goal-oriented perspective.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move about campus.
  • Ability to interact via telephone, in person and via electronic media.
