Learning Outcomes — Spanish with K-12 Educator Licensure

  • Students will demonstrate advanced level oral and written proficiency in Spanish, in order to communicate effectively in a wide variety of situations and for multiple purposes.
  • Students will demonstrate advanced level reading and listening comprehension in Spanish.
  • Students will develop cultural competence and understanding (through the study of literature and culture) in order to participate in multilingual communities at home and around the world.
  • Students will use Spanish to connect with other disciplines, acquiring information and diverse perspectives in order to function in academic and career-related situations.
  • As future Spanish teachers, students will understand how second languages are acquired,  and will demonstrate effective planning and  teaching strategies that incorporate state and national standards of world language learning.
  • As future Spanish teachers, students will create assessments to evaluate their students’ learning, and to inform and improve their own instruction. 
  • As future Spanish teachers, students will become reflective practitioners who seek out professional development opportunities to strengthen their teaching and their language proficiency.
