Elective courses in social work encourage students to explore specialized areas of social work like addictions treatment, child welfare, medical social work and other topics. Social work electives are not required unless a student chooses to complete a specialization in addictions treatment or child welfare. Students earning a generalist degree are encouraged to take electives of their choice.
