Teaching Philosophy

I am very excited to participate in the most important work of teacher preparation and continuing education at Aurora University.  Here at AU, I seek to meet students where they are, and work from a strengths model to move learning forward. I create a learning environment that fosters a positive, supportive learning community making learning accessible to all, valuing diversity and risk taking, where students are meaningfully engaged in relevant work. I plan for collaborative work within my classroom which allows students to work with others to process ideas, problem solve, stretch their thinking and construct new understandings together, to promote deep conceptual understanding, critical thinking and application. I care about my students and have high expectations for all, with clear learning goals supported by explicit instruction as well as timely feedback to students to enable the development of life-long learners.
