Detailed curriculum

These requirements will apply to students enrolling at AU in the 2018-2019 academic year. Current students can find the requirements that apply to them by consulting the relevant academic catalog.

Degree Requirements for the EdD Program

  • A minimum of 60 semester hours (beyond the master’s degree): 35 hours of content related coursework, 25 hours of research coursework and dissertation hours.
  • A committee approved final dissertation that has been orally defended and published on the ProQuest database.
  • Except for those who enter the program having obtained the superintendent’s endorsement, completion and submission of a first year self-reflection on progress toward EdD program outcomes and a comprehensive examination at the end of the second year, as well as maintenance of satisfactory progress are requirements.
  • Completion of all requirements within three years (minimum) or six years (maximum) from first enrollment.

Curriculum/Schedule

Candidates following the full EdD plan who seek to complete their degrees in three years will complete six courses each year as follows. Candidates on the lengthened plan can take courses on a part-time basis within the six-year limit to complete coursework. EdD courses generally meet one night a week and on Saturday. Off-campus courses meet at a time that works for the individual cohorts. The summer term consists of course work that meets during May and June terms.
