Fitness and Health Promotion

In the Bachelor of Science in Fitness and Health Promotion program, you will learn and understand the various levels of exercise prescription for various populations and will have the expertise to plan, implement, document and evaluate the effectiveness of a prescribed exercise program. The Fitness and Health Promotion program also has experiential learning opportunities through field and internship experiences.

You will also be prepared to apply for the Health Fitness Instructor Certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) required for employment by most agencies in the fitness industry. This major requires a minor in Business Administration.

Program Overview

To earn an undergraduate degree in fitness and health promotion, you will complete at least 120 semester hours total in general education and major courses.

The Bachelor of Science includes:

  • 12 semester hours of physical education required core courses
  • 16-20 semester hours of science core courses
  • 42-43 semester hours of professional core courses for fitness and health promotion
  • 20 semester hours of business administration courses to fulfill the minor

The minor in fitness and health promotion includes:

  • 19 semester hours, including 14-15 hours of required courses and four semester hours of electives
