Counseling Services

The AU Counseling Center is here to help you cope with emotional, social or psychological concerns that you may experience during your college years. We provide a safe, quiet and confidential place for you to talk about your concerns, depression, anxiety or stress. Our professional staff can help you learn about yourself and methods of coping. Our services are free for all students currently enrolled, both part-time and full-time, at AU.

Services

• Individual counseling: Meet with a counselor in one-on-one meetings to help you better identify, understand and resolve the barriers that may be interfering with your personal well being or academic success. Individual counseling is designed to be short-term.

Confidentiality

All aspects of your participation in counseling, including the scheduling of appointments and content of counseling sessions, are confidential. Our office maintains a record of the counseling services provided to you that is shared only with you and other counselors in the center. Your file does not become part of your academic transcript and is not shared with any individual, including other AU staff, outside of the counseling office. Information will be released only with your written permission. Our counselors are required by law to notify others who can assist you if we believe that you are in danger of harming yourself or others, or if we suspect abuse of a child or dependent adult.
