Travis Student ProfileMajor: Theatre
Hometown: Montgomery, IL

What do you feel makes AU unique? Even though it is a university, it feels different. You're not just a number; you have a name.

Who is your favorite professor? What class did you take with that professor? I have two: Denise Blank and John Curran. They are the two theatre professors on campus. I have had Denise for almost all my theatre classes and John because I have worked with him on sets for plays. He really enjoys teaching kids how to build a set.

What do you hope to be doing after AU? Getting my Master of Fine Arts in playwriting.

What is playing on your i-Pod? What isn't playing on my i-Pod would be a better question. I have everything from Gregorian chant to Eminem.

What advice would you give a first-year or prospective student? Do your homework the minute you get it. It will help in the long run.

When did you realize AU was the place for you? When first got into a play here. I just loved it.

The AU community is a close-knit group of students, professors and alumni. What's it like? It's nice having a tight-knit group. Especially with a major like theatre, it can be really tight-knit. They will be the closest people you know.

What is your favorite part about AU? How much this campus pushes for equality for all.

Most exciting event on campus? The pep rally. Probably because the drama club performed Spartan cheerleaders from SNL. The crowd really liked it.

What kinds of hands-on work experience have you had as an AU student? The drama club put on a children's show I wrote for class. Having to direct, act, make the set and advertise for it really helped me understand the theatre world more. It is not easy.

What kind of activities do you participate in on campus? I try to go to events when I can. I'm in theatre productions, I was the president of the drama club, The Actor's and Playwrite Society, for 2-1/2 years. This year, I am the secretary for Gay-Straight Alliance. Also part of the Chorale.

What do you do in your free time? I really don't have any. When I do, I sleep.

Where is the best place to study? The library, or on the Quad if it is nice outside. It's quiet and you can get work done without too much distraction.
