Aurora University Announces October Events

AURORA, Ill.—A three day homecoming celebration, a concert by bluesman Corky Siegel, and a presentation by a Caterpillar, Inc. executive highlight October events at Aurora University.

The public is invited. Events are free unless a fee is indicated.

Saturday, Oct. 11 : “ How to read the Bible intelligently,” a free public seminar and discussion, is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Lowry Chapel in Eckhart Hall, 347 S. Gladstone Ave. in Aurora. The sponsor is the Wackerlin Center for Faith and Action. Martin Forward, AU professor of religion and Wackerlin Center executive director, will lead the seminar. Reservations are requested. Monday, Oct. 13: Prospective fall 2009 freshmen are invited to a visit day starting at 8:30 a.m. in Crimi Auditorium in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora. Call (630) 844-5533 for information.

Saturday, Oct. 18 : Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues Show, part of the 2008-2009 Arts and Ideas series, is at 7:30 p.m. in Crimi Auditorium in the Institute for Collaboration, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora. Siegel combines classical chamber music and Chicago blues to bring out the best of both worlds. Reservations are required. Tuesday, Oct. 21 : Aurora University’s Wellness Center will host vaccinations for flu, pneumonia, meningitis and one for tetanus, diptheria and pertussis from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Thornton gymnasium in Alumni Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place in Aurora. The public is invited. Fees range from $25 to $100. Flu shots are $25 each, pneumonia vaccinations are $35 each, a diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis booster is $45, and a meningitis vaccination is $100. Medicare HMOs, Managed Care plan and insurance will not be accepted. Call (630) 844-5434.

Wednesday, Oct. 22 : Denise Hatcher, 2008-09 Schingoethe Fellow and associate professor of Spanish, and Schingoethe curator Sonia Valenzuela, will discuss Hatcher’s photo exhibit, “The Lure of Language: A Personal Portrait of Mexico, Spain & Costa Rica” at 11:50 a.m. in the Schingoethe Center in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.
