Learn About New Aurora University Communication Major At July 29 Open House

AURORA, Ill.—Aurora University will offer information about a new adult degree completion major in communication at an open house on Tuesday, July 29, at 4:30 p.m.

Prospective students are invited to the event in room 213 in the Institute for Collaboration at 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora.

Faculty and staff will provide information about academic requirements, admission procedures, transfer credit evaluation, and financial aid.

Heidi Schlumpf, associate professor of communication at AU and a newspaper and magazine journalist, with 20 years of experience, is an instructor in the program.

She said, “There is always a need for good written and oral communication skills in the workplace. This is an excellent degree program that students can use for a variety of careers.”

AU’s adult degree completion communication major combines practical skills with critical thinking, stressing basic theories of communication. Additionally, students are trained in technology, public speaking and writing for a diverse society.

The program prepares adult students for communication careers in business, health care, government or non-profit organizations. Courses include technical writing, small-group communication, and corporate communication.
