The graduate (M.S.W.) program in social work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Only CSWE accredited programs and schools are recognized by states as being qualified to offer academic preparation leading to professional social work licensure for their graduates.

Our B.S.W. program, accredited by CSWE, is recognized by accredited graduate schools of social work as eligible preparation for "Advanced Standing" consideration for the M.S.W. degree.

For students who are interested in preparing to be school social workers, the M.S.W. program has a school social work track that is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education for Type 73 Certification. Social Workers that have already attained their M.S.W. degree from any CSWE accredited program, and who want to attain the Type 73 school social work certification may apply to the Post - M.S.W. Type 73 Certification Program. The program requires three courses (9 semester hours) which includes a school internship (600 clock hours). ISBE also requires passing the Basic Skills Exam and the School Social Work Content Exam.

For more information on ISBE requirements as well as the Aurora University Type 73 program, please call the School Social Work Program Coordinator at 630-844-5793 or rfisher@aurora.edu.
